September’s release notes lean toward steady polish rather than a major launch. The one feature worth calling out is a new email that notifies customers when their WordPress license activates on a site. The rest of the month closes out a handful of fixes across the Developer Dashboard, Checkout, and Customer Portal.
Get notified when a WordPress license activates
After completing Checkout, WordPress customers receive a license key to activate the premium version. Many makers told us license keys could sometimes be misused, or that customers simply forgot activating them on a particular site, creating confusion and unnecessary support tickets.
To address this, Freemius can now automatically send customers a notification email whenever their license is activated on a website. The email shows which site the license was activated on and links to the Customer Portal in case they want to manage it.
This is not enabled by default. To turn it on, go to Notifications from the top menu, find the “Notify users/customers when…” section, and enable “Their WordPress product license is activated on a website”.

It’s a practical addition that should mean fewer confused customers and fewer support tickets about licenses they forgot they activated. If we see demand for it, we may expand this to license activations for apps and other software types with license activation.

Other improvements
September also included several fixes across the platform.
Developer Dashboard
- Fixed email customization preview: The email customization preview now appears even when the content field is empty.
- Fixed infinite scrolling in data tables: Subscriptions, payments, and sites tables no longer occasionally stop loading until the user scrolls again.
Checkout
- Improved handling of failed PayPal connections: Checkout now gracefully handles failed PayPal connections instead of getting stuck in a loading state.
- Fixed language selector positioning: Switching languages no longer moves the initially loaded language out of place.
Customer Portal
- Fixed incorrect “domain not allowed” message: Fixed a race condition that could cause the embedded Customer Portal to show a “domain not allowed” message; this was a UI-only regression and did not affect actual domain restrictions.
API / Backend
- Fixed unique download counter in staged rollouts: The unique download counter now updates correctly, preventing updates from rolling out beyond the configured limit.
- Fixed review email submit button: The review email submit button now works correctly in email clients where it previously failed.
- Fixed annual renewal reminders for trial customers: Fixed a rare issue where annual renewal reminder emails could be sent to customers who were still on trials.
Steady progress
No headline launch this month, just the kind of polish that quietly makes the platform more reliable: fewer confused customers over license activations, a smoother Checkout, and a handful of bugs closed out along the way.
