Customize Transactional Email Content

Freemius sends transactional emails to your customers to keep them informed about their purchases, licenses, and other important updates. These emails include valuable information that is generated dynamically based on the customer's interactions with your products and services.

You also have the ability to add an additional content block to these emails:

  • Lifetime purchase email
  • New subscription email
  • Subscription renewal email
  • Trial started email

This content block is useful if you want to share additional information with your customers, for example:

  • Custom download links for Apps
  • Onboarding instructions for new customers
  • Link to your support page or knowledge base

or any other information that you think would be helpful for your customers to have in their transactional emails.

Customizing Email Content

To customize the content of an email, you need to:

  1. Select the product you want to customize. Configurations are saved per product.
  2. Navigate to the Emails Page.
  3. Select the Customization Tab.
  4. Select the desired template by clicking the Email to customize dropdown.
  5. Enter the custom section content and, optionally, a title.

After completing these steps, the preview on the right side of the page will display how the email will appear to your customers, with the custom content included.

info

You can make a sandbox purchase to see the email in action in the Email History. To customize colors, fonts, and layout to match your brand, use the Email Styler tool.

RTL Support

Both the checkout and email templates support Right-to-Left (RTL) text. You can enter RTL text in the custom content section, and the system will automatically detect the text direction and display it accordingly in the email.

Set Text Direction

If you want to add mixed text or force a specific direction, you can also explicitly set the Custom text direction option for the custom section to either LTR or RTL. This ensures that the text is displayed in the correct direction, regardless of the content.

By default, the text direction is set to Auto-detect, which means that the system will automatically detect the text direction based on the content you enter. However, if you want to ensure that the text is always displayed in a specific direction, you can set it to either Left-to-Right or Right-to-Left.

Set Custom Section Position

You can also choose the position of the custom section in the email.

There are two options for the custom section position:

  1. Default - the custom section is added at a natural position in the email.
  2. Top - the custom section is added before the original email content.

This capability is useful if you want to add fully localized custom instructions. For example, you can add a custom section with instructions in Arabic before the original email content, which will display in RTL format, while the rest of the email remains in LTR format.
